The German If Design Award was established in 1953 and has a long history of more than 60 years. It is recognized as one of the top three awards in the global design competition along with the German Red Dot Award and the American IDEA Award. It is also known as the “Oscar of the Design World” in the field of international industrial design.

The award judging team is composed of judges from different countries and regions every year. The jury scores the works based on five criteria: concept, form, function, differentiation and impact, looking for and awarding the works with the greatest innovation ability.
